Freshers' Week Timetable
International Students are invited to arrive from Monday 30 September and all other undergraduate freshers are expected to arrive from 10am on Wednesday 2 October.
Our JCR Freshers Timetable is here with our International Freshers having earlier orientation events to help settle in prior to freshers week.
Important Dates
All new students are required to provide original documentation in person to confirm their identity. Students must present documentation that proves their identity and the following is the acceptable documentation for proof of identity. It must be the original documentation and must be presented by you in person.
Students with a student visa
- Valid passport and
- Evidence of student visa
Non-UK and non-Irish with alternative immigration permission (not a student visa)
- Valid passport
Other acceptable forms of ID if passport not available:
- National ID card ONLY acceptable for EU students when accompanied by a verified status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
Irish students should present:
- A valid Irish passport
Other acceptable forms of ID if passport not available:
- Current photo-card driving license, full or provisional, issued in the UK or Ireland (N/K means ‘not known’ so would not be acceptable) and the student’s educational history is in the UK or Ireland.
- A Foreign Birth Registration Certificate issued by the Irish authorities may be acceptable (would need to be referred to the International Student Office to check)
UK students should present:
- a valid UK passport
Other acceptable forms of ID if passport not available:
- Current photo-card driving licence, full or provisional, issued in the UK or Ireland which includes confirmation that the holder was born in the UK or Ireland (N/K means ‘not known’ so would not be acceptable) and student’s educational history is in the UK or Ireland.
- A full birth certificate issued by UK authorities. This includes certificates issued in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Ireland and by UK authorities overseas such as Embassies, High Commissions and HM Forces.
- Certificate of naturalisation or registration as a British Citizen
If your name on your ID is different to your record, proof of the reason for this will be required, for example a marriage/civil partnership certificate, divorce document, deed poll or adoption certificate. Your name will be updated on our system if necessary.
Churchill Gowns will be in College on Friday 4 October, from 1.30-3.00pm in the Stanley Library.
Student Services have a limited number of second hand gowns. If you are interested please contact us, noting that recipients of the Cambridge Bursary will be prioritised.
A Group Photograph will be taken at 8.00am precisely on Wednesday 9 October 2024. You are expected to arrive promptly at 7.45am for 8.00am on the lawn in Emily Davies Court, wearing your gown. In terms of dress, we advise smart-casual (no trainers). You are reminded that this is an official College photograph, which will be preserved in the College Archives.
Individual portraits will take place from 8.30am-10.30am in the Stanley Library. If you would like to have your portrait taken, you will need to book a timed slot with the photographer, you can do this here (select Girton College as the "Institution" and 9 October 2024 for the "Event").
Every student who is new to Girton College is invited to meet the Mistress, Dr Elisabeth Kendall, as part of their welcome to Girton. This meeting is mandatory and details of your appointment will be given in the welcome letter you will receive when you arrive at College.
Gowns must be worn.
