Girton Student Volunteer Scheme

Find out how to get involved!

Volunteering opportunities

At Girton College, we want all students to have a fulfilling, well-rounded experience.

Volunteering can contribute to community building and to having a sense of purpose in addition to studying.  There are multiple motivations to volunteer, including:

  • support a cause that means a lot to you;
  • meet new people;
  • represent others, perhaps as a student representative;
  • gain a sense of connection to the local community;
  • change things for the better;
  • try something completely different;
  • have an interest outside of studying;
  • learn new skills;
  • build on existing skills;
  • improve your confidence;
  • feel good about contributing to others.

As a college we want to recognise and celebrate your contributions as volunteers and to make it easier for you to find opportunities to volunteer in the College, the local community or further afield.

See how volunteering can support career development via the University's Careers Service Advice page.

The Girton Student Volunteering Scheme

This is available to all Girton College undergraduates and postgraduates. We welcome interest in a wide range of volunteering, from acting as student representatives here in Cambridge to international volunteering during the vacation.

Dr Tom Hawker-Dawson and Dr Sophia Shellard are the Fellows leading the scheme.

Join us at Girton's Volunteer Fair on Saturday 9 November 2024. Bring your questions and register to volunteer.
