Research Themes

I am making a first focused study of the Middle English manuscripts in the Additional collection at Cambridge University Library. This includes understudied recent acquisitions and virtually unknown manuscript fragments. By researching their acquisition by the Library, creating detailed catalogue descriptions and laying the basis for a new volume in the Index of Middle English Prose series, I aim to make the collection better known and more accessible to students and scholars.

Alongside this, I work on medieval religious texts and manuscripts that were composed, read, and owned by women. Currently, I am writing on a previously unknown ‘ghost story’ by a fifteenth-century Winchester anchoress, known as the anonymous author of A Revelation of Purgatory.
