Research Themes

My research focusses on the optimal design of resilient, climate-neutral energy systems, and the critical trade-offs necessary to transform how we meet our energy demands. My work spans spatial scales, from urban heat networks to the complete energy flows of entire continents. I frequently cross disciplines, to consider future energy infrastructure in the context of the wider systems in which we live. I work closely with meteorologists, climate scientists, transport planners, industrial ecologists, and social scientists across Europe. Alongside my research, I develop and maintain open-source software to support the decision-making process. I am an advocate for good software practices and open, reproducible science following the FAIR principles.

Responsibilities

I supervise undergraduate Engineering Materials at the College and lecture on Energy Systems at the Department of Engineering, as part of the MPhil in Energy Technologies.

Other

I hold my academic role jointly with a position as a Senior Urban Energy Consultant at Arup. Through this joint appointment, I aim to support the energy transition by accelerating the transfer of novel, open science into practice.

I am an active member of the Open Energy Modelling Initiative and contribute to organising the annual Next Generation Challenges in Energy-Climate Modelling workshops.

I am also part of the University of Cambridge Decarbonisation Network, where I co-lead the Built Environment Special Interest Group (SIG).

Roles within the University

  • Affiliated Lecturer, Department of Engineering
