Taster days were once a much-anticipated part of Girton College’s Outreach offering, until the pandemic. Now, they are making a comeback!
Taster Days have been an important and exciting part of the Girton Outreach Events offering – until 2019 when COVID forced a pause on every part of college life. Now, post-pandemic, Girton is making a welcome return to this much-loved part of the college calendar.
Taster Days are an opportunity for school age students to learn about university life and the process of application. In October 2024, Girton hosted a highly subscribed Modern and Medieval Languages Taster Day. Students who attended reported increased confidence in applying to university and insight into what life at university might be like. Taster Days also offer the opportunity for students to engage with the unique environment of Girton College and its extraordinary teaching staff. No wonder students described their day as an ‘unforgettable’ experience!
This year, Girton is offering the following Taster Days:
- Molecules and Monkeys: Tuesday 25 February, 10:00-16:00 – for those interested in Biological Natural Sciences.
- Life the Universe & Everything: Thursday 27 February, 10:00-16:00 – for those interested in Philosophy and Theology, Religion and Philosophy of Religion.
- People, Pots & Poetry: Tuesday 4 March, 10:00-16:00 – for those interested in Classics, Archaeology and Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic.
Taster Days form a part of our wider Outreach Events programme, including Application Workshops, Parent/Supporter Talks, and much more. A recent innovation is the hybrid nature of the programme, encompassing both an online and in-person offering.
