Classics Event 2025

Photo of the 2019 Classics Event

All who have studied or worked in Classics at Girton are warmly invited back to the College on Saturday 17 May 2025 from 12noon–4pm, for a reunion and chance to showcase to current students the usefulness of Classics for different careers.

The draft programme:

12noon–1pm: Drinks reception and brief talks on current research carried out in the College.

1-2pm: Buffet lunch, with the students.

2-3pm: Girtonian panel and discussion.

3-4pm: Tea and opportunity to visit the Lawrence Room, Girton’s museum of antiquities.

This is the third in a series of in-person events for alumnae/i and students run by the current Director of Studies in Classics, Helen Van Noorden. The theme of the previous event in 2019 was the undergraduate dissertation.

This year, we would like to make space in the event to highlight the unique challenge of learning two ancient languages to a high standard, which remains a unique aspect of the Cambridge Classics degree, even though the majority of the cohort are now beginners in Greek and a significant minority undertake the four-year course catering for beginners in Latin.

If you would like to join us for the event on Saturday 17 May, please book using the below form.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact the Development Office on alumni@girton.cam.ac.uk.
