Remembering Giulio Regeni (1988-2016)

College flag at half mast with a black silhouette of the College Tower, a dark blue night sky

As many of you know, on 25 January 2016, Giulio Regeni, a postgraduate student at Girton College, went missing during the fieldwork for his doctorate in Egypt. His body was found on the outskirts of Cairo on 3 February 2016. He had been abducted, tortured and murdered. No one has yet been brought to justice for that crime. Girton College stands with all those calling for truth and justice for Giulio and his family.

Our College flag is flying at half-mast in his memory, and at 9am today (25 January 2024), and again on 3 February 2024, we shall light a candle for Giulio in the Chapel. Please feel free to drop in to reflect on the life of a fine scholar, great friend, and passionate advocate for human rights.
