The Hammond Science Communication Prize was held in the Stanley Library on the Monday 27 February. This year’s theme was the word “imbalance”, chosen to complement Girton Conversations’ “A Just World?”. The competition received seven excellent abstracts, all of which were selected to present for eight minutes to a packed audience and esteemed judges.

The judges for this year’s awards were Dr Phil Hammond (1981 Clinical Medicine, Sponsor), Dr Suzy Lishman (1986 Clinical Medicine), Dr Seb Falk (History), Dr Stéphanie Swarbreck (Biological Sciences), and Professor Toni Williams (Law). The outstanding presentations explored, amongst other topics, the engineering solutions to climate change, the consequences of imbalance to AI, and the benefits of helminths.

We are pleased to announce the prize winners as follows:

  • Abstract Prize - Rookmini Mukhopadhyay
  • Audience Prize - Emmanuela Onah
  • Judges' First Prize - Kate Sin
  • Judges’ Second Prize - Joe Bray
  • Judges' Third Prize - Emmanuela Onah
  • Judges’ Fourth Prize - Vlad Filip
  • Pathology Prize – Kate Sin

Dr Suzy Lishman attended and presented the Pathology prize to Kate Sin.
